Discipline Continued...

I am so glad I don't work for Austin P.D. While I would agree that officers should watch what they write on their MDC's a 15 day suspensions is excessive. I don't know if Austin P.D. works 8 hour shifts or 10 hour shifts, but if they work 8 hour shifts that is 5 days a week. So a 15 day suspension is the equivalent to 3 weeks off and if they work 10 hour shifts that is almost a month off. What would happen to your family finances with a suspension like that?

Discipline handed out like that has a negative impact on officers. Instead of officers learning that what they did was wrong, they learn that the administration will stab them in the back. They loose respect for administration, and morale in the department suffers.

Maybe Austin should have been looking at closing the club down. Obviously there was a problem with all the police calls for service there.
