Bad Dope

We were busy Sunday, nonstop all shift. It seemed like everything we went to was a report call too. One house was responsible for four calls in about a 2 hour period, they kept calling about a prowler. The first time the officer checked the area and spoke with the complainant but did not find anything.

About twenty minutes later another officer was dispatched to the same house. This time the information was the prowler was trying to kick in the door and the husband had hit the prowler with a crowbar. The other officer got there but could not find the the prowler. I got there with several other officers. We found out that the husband had not hit anyone with a crowbar, that he had fought with the guy in the front yard and the prowler ran off. We then checked the area behind the house where there is a creek and park.

One of the officers found a note from the complaint to an unknown person on a park bench. The note said something to the effect of we have seen you hanging around the area and in our back yard. We want to meet you just knock on the door and we won't call the cops. After checking the area for a while we did not find anyone and we left.

A short time later there was another call to the house. The wife said the prowler was in he house and fighting with her husband. I was at the station, about a block from the house. I went to the call and as I pulled up I asked dispatch to find out if they were still fighting in the house and if so to tell the called to come open the door so I could get in. At first I was told they were still fighting, but then I was told the prowler was in the back. I ran around to the back and saw nothing. The back door was locked and closed. I could see the husband was in the kitchen through a back window.

I talked to the husband and he told me the man had never been in the house. He said he saw a shadow and maybe the top of the head crawling against the side of the house. I looked outside the door in the mud and saw no footprints but mine. I asked the husband if he wanted us to check the house again and he said no. I started to think these people were seeing things. When talking to the husband he seemed to be acting strange. Other officers helped me by checking the area and again found nothing, so we left.

A little while later there was another call. This time the wife said the prowler had been hiding in the closet and was fighting with her husband. I was busy so other officers went. They didn't find anything this time either. This time one of the officers saw what he thought were track marks on the wife's arms. I think they had some bad dope and were seeing things.
