An Unusual Wreck

I was dispatched to a wreck today. The dispatcher told me a lady had called in and said her truck had been hit and was now inside the Laundromat and they had no further information.

I arrived on scene a few minutes later and sure enough the front bumper of her truck was inside the Laundromat. I started asking what happened and had a hard time not laughing when I found out there had not been a driver in either of the two vehicles involved in the wreck.

It seems a man had parked his car and left it running while he went into the Laundromat. The next thing he knew he heard a crashing noise and looked up to find his car on another side of the building from where he had parked it and a truck had hit the Laundromat.

I talked to the owner of the truck. She told me she had been in a convenience store right next to the Laundromat when she heard a loud crash. She went outside and saw her truck had run into the Laundromat.

Either the car was left in reverse or it slipped into reverse. The wheels were turned and the car backed out on its own and was making a circle in reverse when it hit the truck knocking the truck over a curb and into the Laundromat.

The good news was no one was hurt, the damage to the vehicles was minor and the damage to the Laundromat was limited to one large glass pane. The bad news is the man was issued a citation for leaving his car running while unattended.
