Warrant Service

The other day I went with several other officers to serve a felony warrant. The warrant was for possession of controlled substance and was a bond forfeiture warrant. Basically that means the guy went to jail on a previous occasion and was released on bond. For some reason his bond was revoked.

The supervisor had credible information that the guy was at a house in town. We went to the house and knocked but there was no answer. After knocking several times and getting no answer the supervisor told us to knock, announce who we were and tell the occupants of the residence we would make entry. If there was no response we would force entry due to the credibility of the information. (Since this was a felony warrant we could make forced entry to make the arrest.) We made the announcement and the bad guy came to the door. I arrested him and took him to jail.

While at the jail filling out paperwork I saw that his warrant had a $15,000 bond. I am just a working man, but how in the world can he have his bond revoked and have a warrant issued so that he can bond out again? Obviously he is not behaving and following the conditions of his bond so why should he have bond set again? I have no problem with people being able to bond out of jail pending trial. But if they are not going to follow the rules maybe they need to stay in jail.
